ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A shortage of candles is threatening to dim one of New Mexico’s most cherished Christmas traditions this year – farolitos and luminarias.
The simple holiday decorations – brown paper bags filled with sand and lit by a candle – line streets and homes across the state each December. But days before Christmas, many New Mexicans say they cannot find the candles needed to light them.
Local stores across Albuquerque report they are sold out, with little chance of restocking before Christmas Day…
