Utah’s longest-serving woman legislator announces retirement, talks career and legacy

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Utah Representative Carol Spackman Moss (D-Holladay) has announced that she will be retiring after the end of 2026, and she spoke with ABC4 about her proudest accomplishments and what she hopes her legacy will be.

In a statement, Moss wrote, “After deep reflection, I have decided that the 2026 General Session will be my last one serving in the Utah House of Representatives. As the longest-serving woman legislator in Utah history, my 26th session will mark the close of an incredibly rewarding chapter in my life of public service.”

Moss was elected to House District 34 in 2000, and she has been serving her district since, making her the longest-serving female legislator in Utah history. Her district covers most of Holladay and parts of Millcreek and Murray.
