Arizona funding $5 million PTSD treatment trial for first responders

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Police officers and firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty.

That’s why Arizona is investing $5 million to address that crisis, funding the world’s first clinical trial using whole psilocybin mushrooms, not synthetics, to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Arizona’s Family Investigates went behind the scenes of the East Valley lab, the only one in the country authorized by the Drug Enforcement Administration to grow this Schedule I controlled substance, to see if this illegal drug might be the key to saving our first responders…
