Two Spokane teens sentenced to state rehabilitation for shooting

SPOKANE, Wash. — Two teenagers involved in a September shooting have been sentenced to state rehabilitation programs after pleading guilty in Spokane County Superior Court.

A 14-year-old pleaded guilty Dec. 19 to first-degree assault with a firearm enhancement for shooting a man at point-blank range outside a party. Judge Jeremy Schmidt ordered the juvenile to 2.5 to 3 years at a Washington Department of Children, Youth, and Families rehabilitation center.

A 13-year-old pleaded guilty Nov. 19 to criminal mischief with a weapon for punching the man before the shooting. Schmidt sentenced the teen to one year and three months in rehabilitation, including additional time for assaulting a guard while in juvenile detention…
