A former first lieutenant with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has filed a new lawsuit against the department and Sheriff Michael Chapman alleging sex-based discrimination and retaliation.
Colette Cunningham, who served with the agency for over 20 years, was assigned as a first lieutenant in the Eastern Loudoun Station in 2020. In the suit, Cunningham says she was, at the time, one of only two women to hold the rank, and no woman held any of the higher ranks of captain, major, lieutenant colonel, or colonel, which totaled at least 16 people.
Cunningham previously sued the department for discrimination only, but that suit was dismissed by a federal judge. The dismissal is being appealed…
