One charged after Knox County brush fire

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A man faces charges after a brush fire on Saturday, the Knoxville Fire Department said.

Around 9 p.m., KFD responded to a brush fire in a steep, overgrown area behind a shopping center at 7430 Chapman Highway, the department said. It burned about a half-acre before KFD extinguished it.

“The area had also been heavily vandalized, with garbage from a nearby dumpster scattered throughout,” KFD wrote. “Knoxville Police Department officers arrived in the area and located the reported suspect nearby.”

Court records said that the 36-year-old man was near the fire and was covered in soot. Witnesses said he had been throwing items into the fire, records stated. According to KFD, Fire investigators determined that the man was responsible for the fire, and he was taken into custody facing multiple charges including destruction of personal property…
