KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A man faces charges after a brush fire on Saturday, the Knoxville Fire Department said.
Around 9 p.m., KFD responded to a brush fire in a steep, overgrown area behind a shopping center at 7430 Chapman Highway, the department said. It burned about a half-acre before KFD extinguished it.

“The area had also been heavily vandalized, with garbage from a nearby dumpster scattered throughout,” KFD wrote. “Knoxville Police Department officers arrived in the area and located the reported suspect nearby.”
Court records said that the 36-year-old man was near the fire and was covered in soot. Witnesses said he had been throwing items into the fire, records stated.
