Bad Parking job leads to arrest of DUI suspect at shopping plaza

A Bad Parking job led to the arrest of a drunk driving suspect who was found in his vehicle parked on a median at a shopping plaza in The Villages.

Kermit Duane Ivens, 66, of Lady Lake, was found in the wee hours Sunday in a vehicle which “had driven up on a median” in the parking lot of Petco at Rolling Acres Plaza, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The vehicle’s engine was running and Ivens was “passed out.” He had to be ordered several times to put the car into park. He had no idea how he ended up in the parking lot.

Ivens’ speech was slurred and he had a faint “odor of an alcoholic beverage.” Ivens clothing was stained with spilled food. The report identified the Michigan native as a waiter at Outback Steakhouse. He kept trying to light a cigarette and swayed when he tried to stand.

Ivens admitted to drinking “five to six beers” at Applebee’s restaurant…
