Romanian credit card skimming perpetrator sentenced

A second Romanian national faces deportation, fines, and a year in prison after he was sentenced in a credit card skimming case that included victims in Madison.

Romanian national Antonio Rafaila, 19, was sentenced in federal court on one count of placing skimmer devices on credit card readers at stores throughout Mississippi, Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced last week.

On Dec. 18, 2025, Judge Kristi H. Johnson of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi sentenced Rafaila to nine months imprisonment in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, as well as a one-year term of supervised release and ordered him to pay a total of $1,911 in restitution to the retailers that were affected, Fitch said…
