Suspect Who Shot APD Officer Dies Overnight

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The man accused of shooting an Albuquerque police officer during a foot chase on Sunday has died from his injuries.

Police identified the suspect as Luis Arreola-Palma, 32, who was on APD’s Top 25 Auto Theft Offender list for December and had two outstanding warrants. Investigators say officers were trying to arrest Arreola-Palma near Coors Boulevard and Iliff Road NW when he opened fire, striking the officer’s radio. The officer was not seriously hurt.

A second officer returned fire, hitting Arreola-Palma several times. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died…
