One person dead following vehicle crash in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — A crash in Haywood County left one person dead Tuesday afternoon, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to a two-vehicle collision around 1:41 p.m. on U.S. 19 near mile marker 105. Lt. Joshua E. Dowdle said the vehicles involved were a 1999 Suzuki Vitara and a 2023 Honda Civic.

According to Dowdle, the Suzuki was traveling west on U.S. 19 near Jones Cove Road at a high rate of speed when it struck the Honda, which was on the on-ramp to U.S. 74. The impact caused the Honda to leave the roadway to the right, strike a guardrail, and overturn, coming to rest upside down.
