BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – For the first time in more than a decade, the Birmingham Police Department is on track to finish the year with fewer than 100 homicides.
Chief Michael Pickett said while any loss of life is unacceptable, dropping below that threshold would mark a significant step forward after a deadly 2024, when more than 130 people were killed and dozens of families mourned loved ones lost to gun violence.
