MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A South Memphis daycare owner says she was blindsided after receiving a letter from the Tennessee Department of Human Services terminating the facility’s contract, forcing her to shut down.
Prestigious Learning Academy has been open, serving children for nearly 30 years, and after all that time, the owner said she’ll be forced to close her doors. Not because of a violation or failed inspection, but because she questioned an audit.
“It has been a nightmare,’ said Prestigious Learning Academy Owner Shondra Hampton.
Hampton said her nightmare began when she received the letter from the Tennessee Department of Human Services stating that, effective January 8, 2026, the daycare’s contract will be terminated with the state because she failed to allow auditors to access records…
