A Lowndes County property owner has been arrested in a disturbance stemming from bonfire gatherings. The warrant for disorderly conduct was granted after months of conversations between citizens, law enforcement agencies and county leaders around how best to bring peace to northern Lowndes County neighborhoods.
Barry Fred Bryant, 78, of Lowndesboro, was taken into custody Nov. 20 after a disturbance on the property he owns in the area of Clara Gardner Drive. He was charged with disorderly conduct when an event held on his property caused loud noise that ran into the early hours of Sunday, Nov. 16.
“[Bryant] is the property owner,” said Lowndes County Sheriff Chris West who received messages from several residents living in the area around 8:30 p.m. that Saturday. The arrest deposition documents West’s statement which said the calls referenced a disturbance on Bryant’s property, and residents reported extremely loud music and people riding four-wheelers and side-by-side ATVs while driving dangerously in the road…
