Rapper’s mother aids family after condominium fire

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Rapper NLE Choppa’s mother is filling in the gap to ensure one family spends Christmas together following a fire at Hamlet Condominiums last Friday.

“I always try to put myself in that person’s situation, and it just burns my heart to know if no one would help me what I would do,” said Angela Potts, NLE Choppa’s mother.

WREG was at the scene Friday night as firefighters battled the massive flames and smoke, which injured a resident and a firefighter.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation; however, the property manager told WREG that it appears to be an accidental kitchen fire that got out of control.

The property manager said they’ve coordinated with their insurance company and contractors, but additional inspections are needed, which means it could be months before the rebuilding process actually begins.

“If they have five kids and they’ve lost everything, I’m knowing a few days before Christmas, you’ve spent quite a bit trying to make sure that they have a good Christmas,” said Potts.

Potts said after Saturday’s fire, the Jefferson family reached out in need of help.
