Bomb squad disposes of live cannonball found at Carolina Beach home

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (NHCSO) bomb squad disposed of a live cannonball found on a residential property in Carolina Beach.

Carolina Beach Police officers responded to a call in the 600 block of Spencer-Farlow Drive on Monday, Dec. 22, after a resident discovered a cannonball with a fuse on their property.

The cannonball was likely of the Civil War era, with similar cannonballs appearing in the area about every 8 to 10 years, according to NHCSO.

The bomb squad was called to the scene and took custody of the artifact after confirming that the cannonball was “live.”…
