SACRAMENTO, CA — A Filipina nurse who worked at two major Northern California medical facilities died after being struck by a vehicle outside the Sacramento VA Medical Center, prompting an outpouring of grief from colleagues, family, and the Filipino American community. Novyrose “Novy” Mejia, a nurse at both UC Davis Health and the Sacramento VA Medical Center, was hit on December 13, 2025, while walking near the emergency room entrance of the Rancho Cordova hospital.
Authorities said Mejia was struck by a driver pulling into the VA parking lot. The impact caused her to fall and hit her head on the pavement. She was immediately rushed into the VA emergency department before being transferred to UC Davis Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. No charges have been announced as the investigation continues…
