TWRA detects Chronic Wasting Disease in two more counties

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Officials with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has detected Chronic Wasting Disease in deer from two more counties.

TWRA said hunter-harvested deer in both Dickson and Williamson counties tested positive for CWD, the first for both counties.

CWD is a progressive, fatal disease of the nervous system of animals like white-tailed deer, mule deer, elk, and moose, also known as cervids.

According to TWRA, because the positive results are not within or immediately adjacent to the current CWD Management Zone, there will not be changes to transportation or feeding regulations at this time. The CWD Management Zone is primarily located in West Tennessee, with some Middle Tennessee counties included.

However, hunters in both counties are now eligible for the Earn-a-Buck Program. The program allows hunters to “earn” extra bucks to hunt by submitting antlerless deer for CWD testing.
