LAPD Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting During Rampart Division Dog Attack

An Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Force Investigation Division following an incident involving three loose dogs in the Rampart Division area. According to the LAPD’s preliminary report, the incident took place on December 20, 2025, at approximately 8:25 p.m. near the 800 block of Venice Boulevard. LAPD reports that officers responded to a radio call about the dogs lunging at churchgoers, with one individual being chased to the roof of their car.

The situation escalated when officers at the scene found three people who had suffered dog bites, promptly requesting medical assistance from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). As the officers contained the scene and awaited assistance from Los Angeles Animal Services, the situation intensified with the dogs chasing a passerby on a scooter towards them. An officer, faced with a dog lunging at them, discharged their weapon, leading the animals to flee and hide in the vicinity. Following the incident, LAFD transported three injured victims to California Hospital Medical Center for treatment, and no further injuries were reported among officers or the community members.
