Delaware State Trooper Killed in Tragic DMV Shooting; Shooter Also Deceased

Wilmington, DE – A Delaware State Trooper was tragically killed on Tuesday during a shooting incident at a Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) building in Wilmington. Authorities have confirmed that the shooter also died in the incident.

Delaware State Police responded to reports of an active shooter at the DMV location. While details surrounding the events are still emerging, officials later confirmed that the situation was contained and there was no longer an active threat to the public.

“One Delaware State Trooper has been confirmed killed during this incident,” the police announced via social media. “We are continuing to assess additional injuries.”

Governor Matt Meyer also addressed the public, confirming the shooter’s death. “We are closely monitoring the situation at the DMV in New Castle, and I want to be clear that there is no active threat to the public at this time,” Governor Meyer stated.

“Law enforcement acted swiftly to secure the scene, and the shooter has been confirmed deceased.” He added that state and local authorities were on the scene.

The identities of the fallen trooper and the shooter have not yet been released.

In addition to the fatal casualties, police reported that a 40-year-old woman was transported to a hospital with minor, non-gunshot-related injuries. Another woman, 35, was evaluated for shortness of breath but declined hospital transport. A second state trooper also sustained minor, non-gunshot-related injuries and did not require hospitalization.

U.S. Rep.

Sarah McBride (D-Del.) offered her condolences and prayers, stating, “I am praying for all of those impacted, including our brave law enforcement officers. I continue to be in touch with state officials as we all gain more information.”

The Justice Department has dispatched U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wallace and prosecutors to assist with the ongoing investigation.

As a direct consequence of the shooting, all DMV locations across Delaware were closed for the remainder of Tuesday.
