Cedar Rapids to get first senior center in 20 years after $2M boost from anonymous donor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — An anonymous donor has given $2 million to Horizons, clearing the way for construction to begin in early 2026 on Cedar Rapids’ first senior center in nearly two decades.

The donation pushes Horizons’ $5.5 million fundraising campaign for the Center for Older Adults to 65% of its goal, according to the nonprofit. Construction is expected to begin in February 2026, with completion planned about a year later.

Cedar Rapids has been without a dedicated senior center since the 2008 flood destroyed the Witwer Center. Multiple attempts to replace it have fallen short until now…
