Arkansas removing state sales tax on groceries in 2026

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – With 2026 around the corner, more than a dozen new laws will take effect across Arkansas, including one aimed at easing the cost of everyday necessities.  Among the most closely watched by consumers in the capital city is Act 1008, which removes the state’s 0.125% sales tax on groceries.

State lawmakers say the change is intended to provide ongoing financial relief as food prices continue to rise.  While local sales taxes on groceries remain in place, the state portion of the tax will be eliminated.

Shoppers in Little Rock say the move could help, but many are skeptical about how much of a difference it will actually make.

“I think it’ll affect everybody differently,” said Kate Stebbins of Little Rock.  “I get a little excited.  Of course, I’m sure there are ramifications that could come from it later, but at the moment, it could be good for some people.  I definitely worry about rising taxes in general, and it’s something we should all pay attention to.”…
