EDGEWOOD, N.M. (KRQE) – Edgewood Police Department officers used a PIT maneuver to stop an alleged drunk driver who almost collided with other drivers on Interstate 40 Sunday afternoon.
Officers arrested 48-year-old Anthony Perea of Rio Rancho and charged him with aggravated DWI, open container, unlawful taking of a vehicle, reckless driving, aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, and driving while license revoked.

Edgewood Police said officers were dispatched to the highway at 12:10 p.m. after receiving a call about a reckless driver. The caller reported that a red Jeep Comanche was all over the road and causing other vehicles to go onto the shoulder to avoid a collision.
Officers found the vehicle on I-40 west and attempted a traffic stop; however, the driver, later identified as Perea, did not comply and continued to drive, police said. Officers attempted to use a tire deflation device but were unsuccessful. An officer then used a PIT maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop.
