City working to restore potholes across the island following heavy rains

HONOLULU (KHON2) — With flooding and heavy rains all throughout last week, multiple roads across the island are left with pesky potholes and in need of repaving.

“As you can imagine, the first time we see the bright sunshine after weeks’ worth of rain, there’s going to be potholes,” said Ian Scheuring, Deputy Communications Director for the City and County of Honolulu. “We received reports of about 140 potholes through the HNL 311 app or through our complaints telephone line, and so obviously lots of work for our city crews to do.”

Once the rain cleared, road crews set out to address as many of the pothole complaints as possible, but there’s still lots of work to be done in the days ahead.

“The Department of Facility Maintenance was out all day today on Monday working to repair some of those potholes,” said Scheuring on the City’s efforts. “It takes a little bit longer to repair one pothole than it does necessarily to make it happen, especially in the heavy rains, so we’ll get to all of those potholes, especially the ones that are in the city jurisdiction, just as soon as we can.”…
