Bethlehem school district proposes new rezoning alternatives

  • Parents criticized the school board, saying they felt left out of the rezoning process

DELMAR — A group of Clarksville parents expressed shock and anger at having three new rezoning proposals sprung on the public only one day before the Bethlehem Central School District’s Dec. 17 board meeting. Unlike prior proposals, all three proposals envision moving some or all Clarksville area students out of Eagle elementary school and into Slingerlands elementary school.

Schools Superintendent Jody Monroe upended expectations by offering the three brand-new proposals for rezoning attendance boundaries for the district’s five elementary schools instead of final versions of earlier proposals the board had been considering when it met on Dec. 3. More than 100 viewers streamed into the board meeting, in addition to the more than 20 people attending in the board room.
