Historic Greensboro fire truck comes home

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Sometimes history can be hard to hold onto. One man in Greensboro cared enough to bring home something that got away many years ago.

Brad Jones had a chance to talk to him about this piece of history with a story and a reputation that was Made in North Carolina.

A century ago, Greensboro was very different. With a population of just over ten thousand residents, the fire department was a mix of some volunteers with a few paid employees.  But in 1904, the city made a big investment and purchased a new horse-drawn fire pumper that could battle fires with much greater efficiency. That’s the year the American Fire Truck Company merged with the LaFrance Fire Truck Company to create American LaFrance, which would eventually become one of the largest names in the business…
