NORAD prepares for annual Santa tracking mission on Christmas Eve

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – For the U.S. military, Christmas Eve is one of the most closely watched nights of the year as Santa makes his around-the-world journey and millions of kids want to know his exact whereabouts.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command tradition began by accident in 1955 when a young child dialed the unlisted phone number for a military operations center after seeing an ad telling kids to call Santa.
