An atmospheric river has begun unloading heavy rain across Southern California, prompting evacuation orders as officials cautioned people against driving on Christmas Eve to avoid the worst of the “dangerous” storm conditions.
The National Weather Service issued flood warnings and advisories in Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties, where over a half a foot of rain could fall by the end of the week, threatening flash floods and mudslides.
“Severe, widespread flash flooding is expected,” said the National Weather Service. “In addition, areas that normally do not experience flash flooding will flood. Furthermore, lives and property are in great danger.”…
