PHOTOS: Weila, Hogle Zoo’s youngest Bornean orangutan, turns six months old

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Weila, Utah Hogle Zoo’s youngest Bornean orangutan, is six months old and doing well, according to the zoo.

According to Utah Hogle Zoo, their youngest Bornean orangutan, Weila, just turned six-months-old. Weila was born on June 21, 2025, and was three pounds when born.

When she was born, the zoo staff had to give her around-the-clock care by hand, and Weila reportedly faced challenges in eating consistently and gaining weight. Weiler’s mother, Kawan, also failed to nurse the newborn orangutan, so the zoo care teams placed her with Acara, another Bornean orangutan.
