Residents alarmed by smell and oily film in Sparks Marina canal

SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Residents living along the Sparks Marina canal woke up this week to a foul odor — and renewed concerns about what is flowing through the waterway.

An oily sheen appeared on the surface of the canal on the east side of the Sparks Marina following recent rain. Residents who declined to appear on camera said they were worried about possible contaminants after spotting a dead bird floating in the slick. By Wednesday, the smell had become especially strong.
