‘Accidental’ building fire causes damages at more than $900k

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The fire that damaged a South King Street apartment was classified as accidental by the Honolulu Fire Department.

The fire happened yesterday, Dec. 22, just after midnight, when the Honolulu Fire Department responded to a building fire in Honolulu.

Investigators say the fire started in the living room and was caused by a ‘runaway chemical reaction of a lithium-ion battery for a portable speaker’.
