East Cleveland schools released from state oversight after academic gains

CLEVELAND, Ohio — East Cleveland schools have been released from state oversight after improving academically, marking what officials call a “historic milestone” for the community.

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce confirmed the decision in a letter to Superintendent and CEO Henry Pettiegrew II, ending the district’s time under the Academic Distress Commission.
