Health Inspectors Cite Multiple Violations at Vietnamese Restaurant in Duluth

Health officials with the Gwinnett-Newton-Rockdale Health Department inspected The BEP Corner on December 22. The restaurant reported an incorrect thawing method among many other violations, which resulted in the eatery receiving a low score.

The BEP Corner is a Vietnamese restaurant known for its Chicken Teriyaki Bowl, Crispy Garlic Wings, and Salmon Chao. According to the inspection report, the eatery for the following violations:

  • According to the inspection report, the person-in-charge (PIC) initially did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of cold- and hot-holding temperatures. A new PIC arrived during the inspection and demonstrated correct understanding.
  • According to the inspection report, there was a lack of proper managerial control, resulting in multiple risk factors during the inspection.
  • Employee drinks were seen kept in unapproved containers on prep surfaces and shelves above coolers.
  • There were several instances where raw animal products were observed stored above ready-to-eat foods across coolers and freezers. Some of it included raw pork, poultry, seafood, and beef.
  • Broth was not maintained at 135°F or above and was later discarded.
  • Many cans of butane were found above rice in the dry storage area.
  • The report noted that raw shrimp and ready-to-eat crawfish were thawing in standing water.
  • Two employees were seen handling food without hair restraints.
  • Raw shrimps were found in a vegetable prep sink instead of their designated sink.
  • Cups and scoops with handles were seen touching food in rice, salt, and sugar containers.
  • Clean containers were stacked while still wet.
  • The report said that the back door was seen propped open, increasing the risks of pests.
