GREENSBORO, N.C. — A long-awaited grocery store is near opening in a Greensboro neighborhood considered a food desert. Once open, it will bring fresh food options to residents who currently have limited access.
“Every day, we have people drive by, ‘Hey, when are you opening?’” said Madhav Dhakal, one of the co-owners of the new Piggly Wiggly off Freeman Mill Road.
The store may not look like much from the outside yet, but Dhakal said getting to this point required a lot of work navigating permits, licensing and power grid connections. After delays tied to permitting and supply chain challenges, the owners say the project is finally on track…
