NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — More than 300 bird species call Massachusetts home, but the purple gallinule isn’t one of them.
The tropical bird is generally found in South America and southern Florida, and noted for its bright colors and long toes that enable it to walk on lily pads and wade through marshy landscapes, according to Audubon.
But over the weekend, one of these striking birds found itself far from home, in a New Bedford woman’s backyard.
