Darcelle XV carries on drag queen’s legacy by giving back through Christmas Eve dinner

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Volunteers and employees of Darcelle XV in Portland’s Old Town carried on a tradition older than 20 years, honoring the city’s most famous drag queen and her legacy, by feeding those without a home this Christmas Eve.

According to Kevin Cook, an emcee at Darcelle XV Showplace, 22 volunteers helped to serve more than 500 people Wednesday evening, surpassing expectations. Cook said in the last few years, they often served between 300 and 400 individuals.

“It’s been a rough year for not only us as a business, but other businesses here in Old Town and everything else like that, and if you look at our community right now here in Old Town-Chinatown, there are so many houseless people.
