Assault, attempted murder: Inmates within South Carolina Correctional Institutes face more charges after incidents behind bars

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Inspector General with the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) has released a list of new arrest warrants for already incarcerated inmates within the SCDC prison system for crimes committed behind bars. The arrest warrants were issued for 27 inmates in 12 separate incidents at various correctional institutions in South Carolina during the months of September through November 2025.

SCDC says when currently incarcerated person is charged with an additional crime, the inmate must still be served with an arrest warrants and be afforded a bond hearing. These charges — ranging from assault and attempted murder to possession/distribution of contraband and illegal drugs — are different from disciplinary charges an inmate might receive while incarcerated.
