Denise Yanis serves as the Finance Officer for the Carl Morrison American Legion Post 363 in Rockport. In this capacity, she manages financial operations, including counting and depositing funds to support the post’s activities. She also holds the positions of Boy State Chair and Girl State Chair, where she contributes to youth leadership programs that foster civic engagement and patriotism among high school students. Additionally, Yanis is a member of the Leadership Aransas County Class of 2029, a program designed to build connections and skills for community involvement.
A self-described “Marine brat,” Yanis grew up in a military family and later served in the U.S. Marines herself. She is a member of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, honoring the service of her husband (a fellow veteran) and her father. Her military experience instilled values of teamwork, leadership, and resilience, which she credits for shaping her ability to collaborate with diverse groups toward common goals. She emphasizes the lifelong benefits of military service, including global travel, cultural exposure, and building enduring friendships—experiences she draws upon in her community work.
Yanis said she is deeply committed to community outreach in Rockport and Aransas County. Through the Leadership Aransas County program, she has participated in immersive experiences, such as touring local schools, engaging with the justice system, and completing a police ride-along.
