Tyson Foods is telling poultry growers in northwest Arkansas’ Illinois River watershed that their contracts won’t be renewed, and the reason traces back to a lawsuit that has been hanging over the region for two decades.
In a report for KATV Channel 7, Andrew Mobley says the move is tied to Oklahoma’s long-running pollution case against Tyson and other poultry companies.
The lawsuit was filed by Oklahoma in 2005, Mobley reports, and it accuses Arkansas poultry companies of polluting the Illinois River watershed with phosphorus from chicken waste. Tyson is not the only company named in the dispute, and Mobley notes other major poultry players have been pulled into the case as well…
