Gusty winds expected up and down Willamette Valley Wednesday

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Although weather models have backed off on the stronger wind gust forecasts today, A KOIN 6 Weather Alert is still in place throughout Wednesday afternoon as windy conditions arrive across the Willamette Valley.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the valley and the lowlands of the Oregon Coast range from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expect winds gusts around with Portland metro area around 35-40 mph with a few scattered areas seeing wind gusts up to 55 mph as this quick-hitting front moves throughout our region.

The strong winds will be brief. Portland’s timeframe for the strongest winds looks to be around 11am to 2pm.

We are encouraging folks to prepare for potential power outages. Be sure to charge those devices, and have extra batteries, blankets and flashlights on hand as well.

Expect a few scattered rain showers around the metro today as well, but most of the rain will fall before 1 p.m. with a drier night…
