County at odds with Sanipac parent company over waste fee going unpaid

EUGENE, Ore. — Lane County officials want garbage hauler Sanipac to pay in to the county’s system benefit fee, but Sanipac says it doesn’t have to.

The system benefit fee, paid for by residents and haulers at county transfer stations and Short Mountain Landfill, pays for services like hazardous household waste disposal, recycling education, and transfer stations.

But the garbage hauler says it has no obligation to pay the fee since the city it’s hauling from has no intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the county…
