10 inches of snow possible in NY, NJ: Timeline and more to know

NEW YORK (PIX11) – A winter storm is expected to dump up to 10 inches of snow across the tri-state area on Friday, according to PIX11 meteorologists.

A winter storm watch will go into effect on Friday afternoon for the following areas:

Timeline

The watch goes into effect at 4 p.m. on Friday and will last through 1 p.m. on Saturday. Snow will start off dry and powdery before becoming wet overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Sleet could mix into the snow in northeast New Jersey, New York City and Long Island during the storm.
