Jersey City Charter Recognized as ‘Distinguished School’ by State Education Department

The New Jersey Department of Education has named Jersey City’s Golden Door Charter School a 2026 National Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Distinguished School, the department announced in a Dec. 3 memo.

The ESEA Distinguished Schools program honors schools that demonstrate “exceptional student progress and strong performance on ESEA indicators,” according to the state education department’s memo. The program is sponsored by a national organization of officials responsible for implementing ESEA, a federal law intended to narrow achievement gaps for students living in poverty and other disadvantaged students.
