Foggy Nights Ahead With Mild, Comfortable Days, Colder Next Week

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you’re heading out early over the next several mornings, fog will be the main weather story. High pressure remains in control, keeping rain chances low and temperatures mild, but it also creates the perfect setup for late-night and early-morning fog.

Patchy fog develops each night, with the potential for widespread and locally dense fog from late evening through the morning commute. The Nature Coast remains the most fog-prone area, but fog could also impact inland spots and parts of the Tampa Bay area, especially near the water.

Visibility Concerns Late Night and Early Morning

Fog may be thick enough at times to reduce visibility on roadways, bridges, and near the coast. If you’re traveling overnight or early in the morning, allow extra time and use caution, especially through the weekend. Fog should gradually lift after sunrise each day.

Mild, Pleasant Days Continue

Once the fog clears, afternoons stay warm and comfortable through the weekend. Highs remain in the upper 70s, running above average for late December, with plenty of sunshine and light winds. It’s a great stretch of weather for outdoor plans, errands, and holiday gatherings.

Cold Front Brings Changes Before New Year’s

A cold front sweeps through late Monday into Monday night. Moisture remains limited, so only a few spotty showers are expected, but the air behind the front is much colder and drier.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures drop sharply. Afternoon highs fall into the 60s, and mornings turn chilly, with lows sinking into the 40s across much of the area. Some of the coldest air of the season so far arrives just in time for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Ringing in the New Year on a Chilly Note

New Year’s celebrations will feel very different than Christmas. Expect clear skies, breezy conditions, and crisp temperatures as we head into 2026. Jackets will be needed for nighttime plans, and early mornings will feel downright cold by Florida standards.
