On the eve of Christmas Eve, a man alongside his dog and possibly a cat found themselves ensnarled in a precarious situation. Stranded on a static location on an island in the middle of the river at Sunland, they were unable to access safety without assistance. Per a Los Angeles Fire Department alert, the individual was trapped in an RV as firefighters labored to evaluate the circumstances. The rescue units faced challenges reaching the RV due to the river’s conditions. However, LAFD Air Operations spotted the person bravely maneuvering to an open area, bringing along the dog and the alleged cat.
This act undoubtedly facilitated an aerial hoist operation to safely extricate the trio. According to the same alert, the plan was to evaluate the necessity of hospital transport or the possibility of moving them to a safe landing zone, where they could sync up with ground resources. Rescue operations of such nature not only require swift action but also delicacy, to not only save but to assure no harm arrives to those in peril.
The operation concluded an hour after it was reported. As informed by a subsequent LAFD update, a roughly 50-year-old man, the dog, and the cat were all unharmed during their rescue. The Air Operations team successfully performed the hoist operation and transferred the individuals to ground units at the landing zone.
