Houston-area ‘lucky’ lottery stop sees long lines as $1.7B Powerball Jackpot peaks

ROSENBERG, Texas — With the Powerball jackpot soaring to an estimated $1.7 billion on Christmas Eve, long lines formed at Lucky Rudy’s in Rosenberg — a lottery stop many in the Houston area consider a “lucky” store because it has sold winning tickets in the past.

Inside the shop, lottery terminals printed nonstop as clerks worked on multiple counters and even the drive-thru to keep up with demand. Customers said they were drawn in by the massive jackpot — and by the store’s reputation.

“Just take care of the family, that’s what it is,” said Bernie Banda, who bought a ticket Wednesday. “And just have an easy life. Not too much stress.”…
