El Pasoans embrace record warmth for Christmas celebrations

El Paso, TX (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso residents and visitors are adjusting their holiday traditions to accommodate record-high temperatures this Christmas. At San Jacinto Plaza, many were seen in T-shirts and shorts, enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. Deveka Mckinney noted, “People probably would have been out here if it was cold. I, however, would have not came out to the park today if it was cooler.”

Ruben Besantijo remarked on the unusual weather, saying, “Kind of crazy to have this kind of weather right now, spring season, right now, like, like fall season.” While some, like Pablo Jimenez, expressed a preference for a traditional snowy Christmas, saying, “It is nice, but I prefer the white,” others embraced the warmth. Karla Jimenez shared her concerns, stating, “It’s really worrisome that it’s this warm. It should be a lot colder, just because of climate change.”

Despite the mixed feelings, many are making the most of the warm weather. Ruben Besantijo said, “I don’t think it changes my my spirit to all of my Christmas, Christmas season.” Joseph Kim added, “It doesn’t feel like Christmas, but I think it’s still Christmas to me.”…
