CANTON − Kennedy Moody said the free annual Christmas Day ham dinner provided for decades by about 40 volunteers at a downtown church here gives her and her 2-year-old son a much needed boost.
“It’s a really nice event. And it really does help the community,” Moody, 23, of Canton said about the annual carryout meal on Christmas organized by volunteers at The Basilica of St. John the Baptist and St. Peter Church at 717 McKinley Ave. NW. “I’m going through food insecurity right now. So right now it really does help that I’m able to get a little extra something.”
She also came by to pick up a free Christmas Day meal the three prior years. On Dec. 25, she got slices of ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing and corn along with donated bread, doughnuts and other baked items.
‘I think it’s amazing.’
