Power outages across Michigan rise as ice forms on trees, utility lines

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Thousands across Michigan are without power Friday, Dec. 26, as freezing rain has taken down trees and power lines.

Many of the outages are occurring north of Grand Rapids, according to Consumers Energy’s Outage Map.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids reported around 11:15 a.m. that most icing was occurring north of Grand Rapids, Jackson and Whitehall, “with rural roads and bridges most susceptible. Icy roads are expected where freezing rain accumulates. Some areas may change to rain before ice moves out this afternoon.”…
