Local Kwanzaa celebrations
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Friday is the first day of Kwanzaa, a non-religious celebration of family and social values.
Maulana Karenga, then a professor of pan-African studies at California State University, created the holiday in 1966 for African Americans to connect with their roots by celebrating African culture.
