GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – Camp Nelson Campground has faced significant challenges in 2025 after being hit by two major floods, but the owners say they are committed to continuing operations.
The campground experienced its first flood in February. Co-owner Kenny Embry said that after making significant progress cleaning up the site, conditions worsened when April’s historic 100-year flood struck.
During the April flooding, the Kentucky River reached 46 feet. The flood destroyed structures including RVs, the campground’s office and the pool.
